REVIEW –  I like smoothies and therefore I have a big, powerful, and noisy blender. It’s not something I can take to work or on vacation very easily though. Let’s see if the new Cruz BlenderCap can up my smoothie away game.

Design and features

The Cruz BlenderCap is sleek and futuristic looking in a nice light silver color. There’s only one button positioned below the USB-C charge port. A quick double press will activate a 25 second blend or you can just hold the button for continuous blending.

If you are worried about safety as I was there are three safety switches to prevent accidental blending when not secured to a bottle. When you screw the Cruz BlenderCap onto a bottle a yellow light appears on the top to let you know the safety switches have disengaged and it is ready to blend. When blending a blue light appears on top but if the battery gets low it will turn red to let you know.

There is a nice ring of rubber on the base so when you set it down to blend it doesn’t scoot across the counter. It might wobble a little just depending on what you put in it so I found holding it and shaking it around while blending worked best.

What is really nice is that Cruz decided not to make it with proprietary threads. They made it so it fits most common wide-mouth water bottles such as Nalgene, Hydroflask, and others. They also sent me a clear 32 oz bottle which I used to best see the blending action but it is not included in the box.

Performance

I decided to test the Cruz BlenderCap with just water and ice first. It naturally couldn’t finely blend a lot of ice (3 cups) and that’s just because the water bottles don’t have the whirlpool effect that you see in big blender pitchers to mix everything around so there were a few bigger chunks that remained after blending twice for 50 seconds that you can see in the video below. With just water and only about a cup of ice it handled it just fine and blended the ice into a nice snow cone texture.

I tried it out with just some flavored water (I definitely didn’t put vodka in) and some blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries and I probably could have put more ice in or less water but it came out finely blended and delicious.

Post workout I put some almond milk, ice, two bananas, and some vanilla protein powder in and that was pretty darn good. Those are items I can keep at work and just have the Cruz BlenderCap at my desk and make a smoothie for lunch now.

What I like

  • Threads work on Nalgene, Hydroflask, and other bottles with like threads
  • Not loud at all but still powerful

What I’d change

  • I did notice the blue gasket tended to fall down sometimes around the blades after blending but not a big deal

Final thoughts

The Cruz BlenderCap is the mini blender I didn’t know I needed. When I travel from now on I will be taking my BlenderCap with me and I will be using it at work as well. Super easy to make smoothies and easy to clean, the Cruz BlenderCap gets a solid thumbs up from me.
